Following Up Your Australian Visa Application
Author: Rachelle Morrison
Applying for an Australian visa is definitely no easy thing. The line at the embassy can be quite long and it might take you hours before you can have your application submitted. And then there's the whole waiting time while the visa is being process.
In fact, waiting for the result of your visa application can be as nerve wracking as the filing itself. Here, you will most likely be very anxious as you wait for several weeks to hear some news about your application. Luckily, you can actually follow up the progress of your application at the Australian embassy. All need to know here is how to do this one correctly in order to maximize your efforts
The first thing that you need to know here is when to follow up. Technically, you can do follow ups just days after you have lodged your application. However, this wouldn't be a good idea since it is most likely that your application hasn't reached the processing table yet (considering the tons of papers going through it), so people at the embassy won't really give you any information about it.
The best time to check back on your application is after four weeks. By this time, it's most likely that your application has been already received for processing, so there will be updates. Also, this time is a long enough waiting period for updates that will automatically be sent to you by the embassy.
When following up, you should already have your Transaction Identification Number (TIN) at hand. This one is usually given to you after the embassy has received your application, so be sure that you jot it down, as it would be used in locating your documents. In case you forgot your TIN, you can give your full name and additional details in order to get information.
Here, you have several options to choose from on how to follow up with your application. Going personally to the embassy would probably be the least of your choices, unless you have a lot of funds to go around with. Phone updates would probably be the next best thing that you can use. However, be ready, as a call to the embassy can actually cost you around three bucks per minute.
Another option you can go with is checking your application online. This one is by far the easiest, since all you have to do is to log in with your TIN and check your application's status. Do note that this one works better with applications lodged online. Those lodged by other means will probably have fewer updates, as these will have to be entered manually in the embassy's database.
